Abigail's POV
Before we entered the city it was imperative that a plan was made first. I couldn't tell what was going to happen, but I knew I wanted my team to stay safe and to help free the kingdom.
We decided to set up camp quite a ways from the city walls to keep a safe distance but to also help us scan the outside for anyway in. A map of the kingdom, which was given to us by Lord Jayce, played a big part in helping this cause, however everything in the inner part of the kingdom was blurred.
My name is Abigail, but you already know that. I just got done talking with Holly, one of the members of this team. Well, since I'm just standing here, on this hill, waiting for her to come back with a report, I might as well say a thing are two about myself.
I come from a village quite far from here. This village was called Klemond. It was peaceful, for a while anyways, but then, as some people know, bad things tend to stir up. They start out as a small wave then turn rough. Next thing you know, you’re swimming in the waters with no bottom trying your best not to sink. However, that was way later in the future and now it’s far in the past.
Ahh, I see Holly now. "Well?" I asked when she had reached the top of the hill close to where I was standing. She had only looked at me and headed to the tent. I could only have guessed that whatever she saw was either good or bad, but whatever it was, we were going to hear it during the meeting.
It was only a few minutes after that I had gathered the others in the main tent to discuss a plan to get in through the walls.
"So, we all know why we're here." I formulated. "We need to find a way into the city without being discovered and to get all who remain out safety. Holly, what is the situation with the guards patrolling the gate and the outer wall? Were you able to find a way in?"
I haven't been around her as long as I've known her, but I knew she was very stealthy, cunning and good at her job. She could rob you blind and you'd never know until she was long gone. As I had said earlier, I had sent Holly to scout out the area near the walls to see if there was any sign of a way in. I placed the map that was given to us on the table and gave the floor to Holly.
"There are three main walls," explained Holly. "The outer, the inner, and the center. The outer walls are what we need to get past to reach the markets and other storage houses. The inner is where the homes, bars and inns, and a few other buildings are located.
The center walls surround the castle while most of the armories, storage rooms and guard quarters are located. Now, most of my information about the inner parts of the kingdom was hard to get and still might not be legit but here’s hoping. However, after scanning around the outer walls, my information about the outer parts were proven reliable."
"Now, the guards have a tight patrol on all sides with multiple below and above the gates," she continues to report. "They are indeed armed from up to down. No one is getting in or out without their authorization. As for a way in, I think I found one."
She turned the map and pointed at the river on the north-west side of the kingdom. "Here. This part only has two or three guarding it and there's at least a two-minute gap in their patrol.
If we hurry, we might be able to find a way in," she theorized. "Well at least we know where to start," stated Kalaya. "Now we just need to find out where any survivors might be."
"Lord Jayce, is there a place where the townsfolk would go if in peril?" asked Brynlie.
"Not that I can think of." he replies. "My expertise was more put into artifacts, relics, and ancient books," he explains. "Lord Timothy Tassell was the one who was known to most of the townspeople and was well liked by many. He helped with their affairs and problems, but I did overhear him talking about a safe room near one of the armories inside the inner wall. Sadly, he did not mention were." "Then once we get through, we'll start searching for any armories till we find them, but they’ll be scarce," added Holly. "Agreed?"
"Agreed!" Everyone concluded.
"What should I do?" asked Lord Jayce.
"Lord Jayce, I would wish for you to stay here and wait for the others that I have called to aid us,"
I answered. "When they arrive, tell them the plan and that we wish to meet them by the river in a few hours. There, we will regroup and get the citizens out. With more help this will become a lot easier, and I will have you lead them back to the camp safely. Make sure to also tell them that something has to be done about the guards." "Will do."
"Now, let's finish getting ready. We will wait till the cover of night then move out. This meeting is adjured." I waited until everyone had left then turned to Lord Jayce who was still in the tent. "Are you sure she’s there?" I asked Lord Jayce. "Yes," He answered.
"And, what about..." "Your-" He interrupts. "Don't!" I whisper urgently before he could finish.
"Just... say yes or no." I insisted, but he only nodes.
"Ok. Then when everyone is accounted for and safe, I'll head in and take care of it. Can't afford anyone knowing and risking the mission." After I finish he heads out, then moments later I do the same and start checking my gear. Once I'm done, I wait for everyone else to finish preparing.
After a few hours had passed, the sun started to go down. I waited on the hilltop while everyone was about ready when the mountain's shadow started to climb over the hills and the sky grew dark. Torches were lit around the city walls and by the gate.
Now was the time to move.
