This was once a magical realm full of beauty and good will, a place of trade and travel, brimming with all kinds of populace. A place everyone wished to visit, and many did, coming from all corners of the world. Then the darkness came, and it all changed.

A once glorious and magical town that overnight found itself turned into the most dreaded of prisons. A night that stayed to act as custodian with its everlasting presence. A night that never left. A coveted place of aspiration turned into a place of avoidance, a prison with no other quite like it. A nightmare capital where no passing outsider would ever dream of entering, and those trapped within could only dream of escaping. Each home was turned into a cell by that very darkness and the fears of whatever could be concealed within it; while a dark forest of crooked and twisted trees that sprouted that very same night came into being to act as its outer walls. Thick and powerful trees, each one barely discernable from the darkness that encouraged it, and all bent on surrounding every bit of that town.

He remembered how he used to sit in his father’s lap and listen to him telling the story of how the entire town, and all those within, just woke up one morning to find that the sky had remained in love with a starless night. He was told many more times still, by his parents and others, of why he had seen nothing but night ever since he was born. That is how much time has passed since darkness took hold of this place, without any signs of letting go.Overtime only the very few and needed would dare to step outside and roam the streets, doing so mostly to preach or to ask. Speeches and queries that just offered the same results to any bent ear. Questions, and then all the other questions that would follow the first ones.
