18 is an age that I do not understand. When you are barely aware, you're given away to the world by your parents who assume you're ready. Your parents push you away as quickly as possible without ever taking the time to understand. It's not the growing-up part that's hard, it's when you think that you'll need to be fully independent without any help that's difficult to swallow. Belligerence is what comes to mind when I think of growth.
As a young person, I thought you had a sense of freedom that could not hinder your development, but goodness I was wrong.
