Today I have invited Yuri to have dinner at my home. Well, it was actually her request to be invited for a dinner. In these few months, we have built quite a friendly relationship. She knows a lot about trees and that helps me to take care of Blossom. Blossom, she is a major part of my life. My grandmother had sown her when my mother was pregnant. She believed that trees bring happiness to a family and thus a healthy child would born. So, I came out as the most unexpected blessing to my family. I have heard that my grandmother was diagnosed with paralysis before her death due to the shock of not having a ‘grandson’. Whatever, me and blossom, we have seen each other growing. Once I stepped on her while playing in the garden and my mother was finding such an opportunity to uproot the plant. But I have always been stubborn about my decisions. The five years young kid fought with the thirty-six years old lady to save the plant. That’s when I kept her name ‘Blossom’. We ate together, slept together, and chatted for hours. My parents were never home until one day they never returned anymore. It’s 2:00 P.M. and Yuri is already here starring at my project with her big round eyes.
“What’s your favorite insect?”
“Beetles”, I said. “What about you?”
“I love honeybees.”
“Any special reason?”

“Are you bugging me for doing my project with cocoons of bugs?”
“No! It’s true.”
We spend quite a lot of time fussing around with such messy gossips and then I get busy making dinner. I am making Fried rice and Dum Aloo, well that’s the only street food I can make. “Hey, you should manure her every weekend.”
“Are you serious? Do you know how much that will cost? She has been healthy all these years. She doesn’t need pouring amount of manure.”
“But if you manure her frequently she will be happy.”
“How will you know whether she will be happy or sad? We have been together for ages. I know her better.”
“Well, in case of understanding blossom I am four steps ahead of you. We are connected by soul.”
“What do you mean ‘connected by soul’? You haven’t even seen her before.”

“How’s that possible?”
“Because we share our lives.”
Her words have created a pause in our conversation. Rather than being angry I feel consumed, like a spark of happiness is running through my nerves. It feels like a moment of revelation like the truth is ready to be unfolded.
After dinner, she sits under Blossom and tells me some of my childhood incidents I shared with Blossom.
“Once, there came a huge storm. I was still small enough not to handle such a disastrous flow of air. But you saved me. You covered me with your body and stood before the gale. We spent the whole stormy night together. I could feel the warmth of your body even though it was winter back in Japan.”
I was shocked to hear her revealing such stories which had been a secret between me and Blossom all these times.
“So, how are your souls connected? It’s quite unbelievable but, you seem to know all our moments together.”
“I don’t know how, but, I always dream about you and Blossom. I feel pain when she is hurt and feel happy when she is healthy.”
“But haven’t you tried to know how this is possible?”
“Yes, but never got a clue. Once I dreamt that I am in a whole different world where I reached through the washing machine! That was kind of stupid. So, I never really bothered.”
“Through washing machine?! Well, more fantasies awaited.”

“I don’t want to die. Blossom will feel lonely without me.”
