When she worked Nyx allowed her mind to wonder, as if she became another person entirely. A person whoever her client needed her to be, no matter how it hurts. If they wanted a submissive, she would be just that. If they wanted to inflict pain, she would take it. If it's one thing Nyx learned about men is, if left unchecked they would become monsters. They already are, commoners are just monsters who have no choice but to hide it until they are behind closed doors. That's where Nyx and the girls come in, the silly little dolls they can hurt and use as they please once they pay.
Some of the girls like to think that doing what they do makes society a better place. After all, they are satisfying the dark desires of men so it doesn't come out in the wrong way. They are just fooling themselves, and Nyx wasn't going to let her mind fall for it. They weren't some noble gestures for society, they were being used by society. All because they were weak, all because no one stood up for them. Sleep deprived, Nyx’s eyes were red and had dark bags beneath them. Yet, she refused to sleep for whatever the reason maybe. Is it because she doesn't feel safe? No. Is there too much noise outside? Did she have a dream about her past? Maybe. All Nyx did was sit near the window and looked down at the bruises that paraded her once delicate skin.
Some nights are easier than others but last night was not an easy one. The man was relentless in his pursuit to letting all his anger and frustration out. Suddenly one of the Guarda, who watched over the girls came in and his eyes scanned the room looking for someone until his eyes landed on Nyx.
“You are awake, good. Freshen up and make yourself presentable, the boss is calling you to his office.”
Nyx didn't question his order no matter how much she wanted to. Once he left, she simply did as she was told. She took a bath, dressed in one of her best outfits, and did what she could to cover the bruises that surrounded her body. The girls she shared a room with just watched her, she didn't really talk to them but most of them had a silent respect for her. One way or another, she had helped all of them, sometimes her helping them meant she got hurt very badly. They know Nyx didn't like to talk, so they never pushed her, just admired her from a distance.
Everyone noticed that Nyx is the only person who's sheets are always clean. That is because anyone of the girls that were doing laundry paid special attention to her bedsheets. One way or another, many of them owed her their lives. It became very apparent to them a year ago, when one of the older girls were set to serve a group of clients. She was so scared and when she got to the room she couldn’t do it, all her crying and refusal only angered the men. Nyx stepped in and took her place instead without hesitation. That night the girls stood awake all night waiting to see if she was ok. They were shooed by the guards and didn’t see when the men left. All they knew was that Nyx never came back to her room that night. Unable to sleep, the moment morning broke, they rushed to find Nyx alone in the room. On the cold floor, badly hurt, bleeding and struggling to breathe.
When Nyx noticed the girls staring at her, she stood up and forced herself to stand. They tried to help her but she refused. They always knew she was stubborn but this was beyond their imagination. She managed to get herself to bed and went straight to sleep. That night she caught an intense fever, it had her in a daze, without her knowledge they cared for her. They cleaned, treated and looked after her. After that, they never spoke another word of it. They admired Nyx. She always carried an air of elegance, it isn't obvious at first glance but the more you look at her the more you could see it.
Back to the present, Nyx was making her way to the boss’ office. Wondering for what reason she was summoned. The girls are rarely called to his office, most times it's either because of a complaint or for a special job. No matter, no one wants to go there most of the time he calls them to punish them. Nyx had quite a few of those when she first came. She stood in front of the door and took a deep breath before knocking.
“Sir, it's Nyx.”
“Come in.”
She entered, straight ahead was her owner sitting on his coach smoking a cigarette and a drink in his other hand. He was a disgusting man, not just in his actions but his appearance too. Almost pig like, every time she saw him a shiver of disgust always coursed through her. Standing at the side of the room was a familiar figure.
“Nyx, my good bitch, this good man here is your client, he has rented you for the day so you better be good you understand?” His words held a silent threat.
If Nyx had her way, she would have killed him but she had no interest in dying. She hates being threatened, but she was in no position to oppose.
“Nyx will take you to our best room, and don't be afraid to say if she gives you any problems.”
Nyx led the young man out the room and through the brothel. The silence between them made Nyx uncomfortable. She internally cursed herself for thinking that he could have ever been a man of value. How could she let herself get swayed just because he had a soft and pretty face? She thought. Nyx and her client finally got into the best room in the brothel. They called it the ‘Green room’, mainly because of it's amazing view of the garden in the back. Not often does Nyx get to go there. She waited for her client to enter before closing the door.
He made his way to the single couch, putting the bag he carried to the side of the couch he sat on. He threw his head back and sighed in relief. Nyx took a deep breath and just like that it felt like that invisible switch just got turned inside her. With an extra sway of her hips she made her way over to him. Slowly, sensually, dropping any clothes she found unnecessary. He didn't even notice what she was doing yet. She softly sat on his lap and that surprised him, he looked at her with wide surprised eyes, not understanding what was going on. She smirked and leaned forward.
“Tell me, what do you like?” Her voice sounded unusual to him, certainly not like the woman he had spoken to before. It was dripped in fake lust and desire, almost unnoticeable but he noticed it.
“Do you want me to take control?” Her hands travelled from his strong thigh, grazing his stomach and stopped on his shoulder.
“Or do you prefer to be in control?” She used her other hand to guide his to her neck.
“Neither.” He answered and removed his hand.
Nyx internally tsked, irritated by what she thought was hypocrisy. All men are monsters filled with lustful desires, why should he be any different. She got on her knees and kneeled between his legs and slowly made her way to his waistband.
“Well then, if you don't mind, I’ll start and you’ll tell me as I go along. I’m down for anything.”
He grabbed her hands, firmly but not roughly.
“I think you’ve mistaken the purpose of my visit.” He spoke.
Unable to hide her emotions, Nyx raised a brow at him, “This is a brothel if you haven't noticed, there's only one reason you would come here and rent a girl. It's ok, to let loose here, I don't judge.”
“You told me if I wanted to continue our conversation, I had to rent you so I did.”
She frowned, deeply confused, “Is that really all you came here for? To talk?”
He nodded and guided her to stand and he did. He gestured for her to sit instead and she did. Nyx didn't know how to feel about what was going on. It was strange. While her mind should be enjoying the moment, it was seeing an opportunity in the soft, kind eyes of the stranger.
“How did you learn my name?” She asked in a soft, more approachable tone.
“A man who saw us talking told me, I think he works here. Do you follow you around?”
“No, there are many of them all over the city just to keep an eye out in case any of us try to run away.” Nyx explained.
He nodded taking in the new information, “I have something for you.”
Nyx looked at him, curious. He took out a folded cloth from his bag, he gave it to her.
“It's a new cloak, I thought you could use a new one.” He smiled. Something about his smile could tell you that he did it with the most innocent intention and didn't even think of it as to mock her.
This action alone confirmed something to her but she still needed to see for herself. Not like she had anything to lose. The tears in her eyes fell one after the other until she was sobbing.
“What's wrong?” He asked.
She didn't answer, “Please, just tell me what's wrong.”
He sounded desperate. That's it.
“How can you be so nice to me? I’m nothing but a filthy whore, why spend so much money on me and want nothing in return?”
“You aren't filthy, and I don't know why I wanted to see you but it felt right. So please, no more crying.”
She stopped crying and looked at him, he gently smiles at her. She was right.
“What's your name?” She asked.
He looked away for a moment as if wondering if he should answer, “You don’t have to tell me, after all I still am just a whore.”
“Seth, my name is Seth.” He quickly answered.
