Time has run out. It is now impossible for me to press on any longer. I have been BLINDED by what I thought to be true. The face I had seen in the window, or so I claimed, was only a bitter reflection. Its face of glazed eyes, scalping head, and other horrors, now belongs to me. I stare at my reflection, seeing a monster in its place. Condemned to this fate, I write these final words:

Mad! they say, not bothering to think.
Mad! they exclaim, my hopes beginning to sink.
A demon! a freak! from hell, no less.
Take him down from his place and force him to rest.
Led to my fate and strapped to a chair,
I stare down at the town in despair.
“Cowards!” I shout. “You can’t get past what you feel!
The illusion you’ve made for yourself you believe to be real!
I’m not a monster, beast, nor freak!
The cowardice you hide behind makes you weak!
I have the intelligence of a man, and emotions of a sort, just as you!
But you have BLINDED yourself, disguising what is true.”
